50s science-fiction at its best!

Daniel F. Galouye wrote countless science-fiction stories for Fantasy&Science-Fiction Magazine and the now-defunct Galaxy Science Fiction Magazine, which in its 30 years of life from 1950 to 1980 was "the" leading SF mag in the business. Dan Galouye wrote four novels as well, including the novel Simulacron 3, which was the source for the film The Thirteenth Floor. So. . .
If you read Galouye, you can be assured of a fun, exciting, fact-based science-fiction story.
Spillthrough is a a story that gets its hero in deep water in the first paragraph and keeps him there to the very end, when right wins out through a clever move by the hero.
First-rate science fiction by a first-rate writer.
Highly recommended.

Good Short Story about Greed overriding Humanity

This story could have been told about ships on the ocean really, one ship being a bit quick to declare another salvage and to make it so if it wasn't already. It's a clever little story and worth reading especially at the cost of FREE. The idea of "spillthrough" of a ship from hyperspace to real space causing an essentially unsurvivable acceleration gradient is interesting too. The only story I remember something similar is in the Honor Harrington series but it did't work quite like this. I'd like to hear more of this world.

Routine SF

Daniel F. Galouye wrote some very interesting science fiction in the 1950s and 60s, but this short story (one of his earliest, from 1953) is not his best. It's a routine space adventure, about a plucky spaceship pilot trying to save his ship (and himself) from a rapacious rival who sabotages his ship to steal its cargo. The story is suspenseful enough, but it's like dozens of other stories from the pulp magazine era, with none of the conceptual bravado of better Galouye works like Simulacron-3.
