Great book. Terrible edition!

While the attitudes about gay sex are quite dated, the over-all story of the love that evolves between two boys at a British boarding school is exceptional. The characters are believable and beautifully written. You'll fall in love with this book, just as I have.
Unfortunately, this particular edition is really poor quality. Typos abound. (The phrase, "Right Oh" is constantly printed as "Eight Oh") There is a more expensive edition of the book available on Kindle. While I can't comment on the quality of that edition, it has to be better than this one. Go with the pricier edition, or wait for this one to get fixed.

Boring story, too many typos

The trials and adventures of schoolboy David at a British boarding school in the early 1900s.
eBook downloaded from [...] Unfocused storyline, marginally interesting as a period piece but that wasn't enough to keep me reading. The frequent proofing errors didn't help, and I gave up pretty quickly.

A bit too, too precious

Interesting spotlight on English boarding schools of the period. But a little too precious too. The voices of the students are adult thoughts and words rather than those of real children one suspects. And the attachments between boys at English boarding schools are portrayed as exclusively pure and noble. Anything other is called "filch" and quickly glossed over. Not really very honest writing. But perhaps one couldn't do otherwise when this was written.
