The Trespasser is the second novel written by D. H. Lawrence, published in 1912. About the Author
D.H. Lawrence had unconventional opinions, especially about sexuality, and at the time of his death he was thought of mainly as a pornographer who had wasted his considerable talents. But E.M. Forster, in an obituary notice, described him as ""the greatest imaginative novelist of our generation."" Later critics concurred, and Lawrence is now remembered as an important modernist intellectual.

Only for the True Lawrence Fan

Having read almost all of Lawrence's novels I was drawn to this one because of the Wagner connection. Although there are many references to Wagner's operas here there is nothing that links this novel to Wagner thematically other then the unhappy lovers. Siegmund is a married violinist engaged in a love affair with his student Helena. While Lawrence's descriptive powers are impressive, much of the novel involves walks along the beaches of the Isle of Wight without much of interest happening. The novel has a predictably sad ending which the reader is made aware of right at the beginning. Okay for a real Lawrence fan. For others start with the best 'Women in Love'.

Had some beautiful prose, but was excessive at points. The story had a predictable ending, which was obvious from the beginning. Descriptions of the sea were beautiful. Book was OK. Not his best work, I didn't think.
