It's like, watch me do all these things without knowing ...

what you get is a very shallow introduction to some syntax of how java works, which is sorta what I was looking for. However, the book is loaded with typos, and the way he explains can be confusing. For instance, the last chapter is hard to understand because he explains things he's doing, and then says what he just did, instead of saying what he'll do and then doing it for you. It's like, watch me do all these things without knowing why or what I'm doing. Oh yeah, my goal was to show you this.

Great start to my java education

The last time I tried to program anything, I was using GWBasic from the early 90s. Suffice to say, it's been awhile. I've wanted to get into something, preferably JAVA for quite some time, but it's a little overwhelming....so I grabbed this book to get me started with some "HELLO WORLD" routines, you know. This book did exactly that. Sure, I'm not going to be a paid programmer any time soon, but it gave me the basis to add to my education a bit more. This was a great starter!

I was really happy to find this book

I needed to learn Java coding for my work but have been dragging my feet due to feeling overwhelmed by the other huge books out there. This book turned out to be perfect for me. Each chapter is laid out in such a way that I understood it easily. It allowed me to create my first project without getting bogged down in my own drama and quitting – as I’ve done before. Now I feel capable of working with Java for my needs and that’s a valuable skill to have. I highly recommend this book.
