Sports programming is why cord cutters should consider Sling TV

For less than a buck, it's not bad, but much of the information can be gotten off the Sling dot com website in the FAQ section. There is a tip that I thought was helpful: "If you are watching Sling TV on a computer..." don't move the mouse or you'll leave full screen mode. The section on installing Sling TV on a Kindle Fire tablet may be helpful to some users, but again, that information can be obtained by Sling on their website at the bottom of the homepage where it says 'Get Help' and then 'Install Now'.
If you put your name in for an invite to Sling TV before it launched, you'll get an email with a free 7 day trial. I am trying it out as I've been a cord cutter for a couple years now, having written the book: Simple Guide to Over-the-Air Free TV, mentioning Sling TV as a way to supplement over air TV broadcasts with streaming media.
This book is a good overview of Sling TV. I wish the book had a Table of Contents for easier navigation (may have been done on purpose to make the reader push forward in the book - giving the author payment for the book if it was borrowed versus purchased), but it's really quite short so this is not a big deal. It was published in early February and since then AMC has announced they'll be joining the Sling TV basic package - which as of this writing has not been updated in the book.
Also at the time of this writing the Sling TV app isn't yet available on Fire TV or Fire TV Stick - mentioned in the book as available at launch, but unfortunately not so. I'm crossing my fingers that will be coming soon. Currently I can watch it via PC or Roku 3.
USA TODAY article 2/9/15: "The Sling TV app is available on current-generation Roku and Roku TV devices, Android and iOS apps, as well as Windows and Macintosh computers. Support for Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick is expected soon."
NOTE: The author indicates he's watching his Sling TV via a Amazon Fire TV when talking about the picture and sound quality. I question that he's really done this. It's February 11th, and at present, the Sling TV app isn't available for Fire TV or Fire TV Stick. Although I suppose it's possible he got in on a Beta testing of the device and the app? Not likely, but possible.
The formatting of this book is a little hit and miss. No Table of Contents (again, may have been done on purpose...) and the 'Are your pipes large enough?' (something that had the author really been playing with Sling TV would have known isn't that big an issue with Sling TV service, is in bold font. Not sure why other than prior to uploading to Amazon the author may have not noticed this issue.
NOTE: There's a link to a download for an app that will allow Sling TV to work on Kindle devices. I would caution readers not to download something from an unknown Dropbox source - which is what the link takes you to in the book. I would suggest waiting for an officially released app.
The biggest perk to the service is the availability of ESPN and ESPN2 with even more sports channels offered. This is where over air TV tends to be lacking for cord cutters, so it's worth a look if you're into it. The problem is, if you're paying for the service, you're creeping your way back up out of the savings you gained when you cut the cord. But at least you'll be getting channels you want... at least a few of them.
