Disappointed, but lives up to the title

I was disappointed at this book. I was looking for a comprehensive starter book on Spring 4 - I have not worked with Spring since V2, and then it was really early stages, so I needed something to get back up to speed. I was only planning to buy one book, and had narrowed my choice down to this and "Spring in Action" by Craig Walls.
I purchased this book first, based on the recommendations I had read, and a week later ended up buying "Spring in Action" anyway.
"Spring in Action" is a MUCH, MUCH better book, much more comprehensive, and substantially better written.
This book does what it says - teaches you how to begin with Spring - but that's it. It covers the basics. There are reasonable tutorials that help you figure out how to do the fundamentals of enterprise programming, but if you're anything more than a junior programmer, you should be looking for a lot more than what this book offers.
If you really want to get down to how and why things work the way they do, you definitely want "Spring in Action" (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/161729120X).

Great, Comprehensive, Must Have

The books explains the integration of Spring 4 with Java 8 and Java EE7 in comprehensive way. I highly recommend this book to every developer who are passionate about learning Spring from scratch. Best book I've seen so far for Beginners. In my opinion, Spring Enterprise is timeless. The book is definitely a great place to start.

Could have been a lot better.

I did not know Spring at all when I started reading this book. This book helped me somewhat in learning the concepts of Spring. However, it did not do a good job. I read several chapters of this book and started coding. Apart from typos and certain mistakes in the exercises, whatever I read in this book was correct. However, the content is incomplete. I learned this the hard way as I tried to write real world applications using Spring. Although this book was my starting point in the Spring world, I had to spend a lot of time supplementing my knowledge using internet searches and writing a real world web application using Spring. I would not recommend this book. However, if you want a new book about Spring 4, you will be limited in your choices. Ever since I read a few chapters of this book, I bought a different book on Spring. The new book was even worse. Of course, this is my opinion. Your opinion could be different.
